About Our Farm:

Small Wheel Farm is an intensive vegetable farm situated on 6 acres in the outskirts of Hermantown, MN, 20 minutes from downtown Duluth.  We grow on less than an acre utilizing small scale equipment and tools, and have been selling our produce at the Duluth Farmers Market since 2017 and running a micro-CSA since 2018.  Small Wheel Farm is a young, dynamic farm that is actively growing from year to year.

The Farmers:

Rebecca Gramdorf owns and runs Small Wheel Farm with the help of her husband Peter Taylor.  She is a first-generation farmer coming to this career after years as an art educator.  Rebecca loves the hands-on nature of farming during the summer, and creates pottery and other art during the winter months.  She continues to teach art through community education at regional art centers and envisions the farm as somewhere she can combine all her interests: artistic, agricultural and educational.

 Positions:

2025 CSA Worker Share: 5 positions available (Tuesday or Friday--usually mornings, 3 Hrs)

Those participating in our CSA Worker Share Program are technically, not employees of the farm, but are instead paying for their CSA share by helping on harvest days.  It is an excellent option for those who have time but limited monetary funds, and those who seek a stronger connection to the farm/farmers and how their food is produced.

Those in our CSA Worker Share Program help with vegetable harvesting and processing one day a week for either the morning or afternoon.  You can expect to pick vegetables in the field, wash vegetables, and package vegetables in bags and totes for market and CSA.  In general, we seek people who can work throughout the entire growing season.

Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail
  • Reliability and timeliness
  • Positive can-do attitude
  • Cleanliness and ability to follow food safety measures
  • Good physical condition

(Sorry, but we are unable to accommodate accompanying children at this time.)

Benefits:

  • CSA share for every week worked (you do not receive a box if you are on vacation and are unable to work for a week)
  • Gleaning opportunities
